Our support
2024: the homelessness prevention program
2025: homelessness prevention and the new Burien campus
2026: continued support of both
Homelessness prevention. Mary's Place describes prevention as "keeping families in their homes, preventing homelessness in the first place, reduces trauma, particularly among children, stops the cycle of generational homelessness, and is cost-effective." It uses "flexible financial assistance" so families can get help with needs like "back rent, car repairs, or utility bills." Its prevention team "supported 675 to keep their hard won homes," and 1,426 families moved to or kept stable housing in 2025.
The Burien campus. The campus will include "200 beds of emergency shelter and 90 units of permanently affordable housing," and at least 30 of the homes are reserved for "families transitioning out of homelessness, creating a unique opportunity for families to move from shelter into housing, while maintaining their community and school connections." Completion is expected in 2027. Our support includes sponsoring a guest room.
In September, we toured the campus, still under construction. What stayed with us was the thoughtfulness in how it's being built: light-filled rooms and a sense of dignity for the families who will call it home. Mary's Place treats the people it serves as neighbors worth investing in, and it shows in the details.
